What the marine layer does to a refrigerator door seal

Fog does not land evenly

Alameda sits in the marine layer more often than a kitchen set farther from the water. Berkeley and El Cerrito catch the same gray mornings when fog spills inland and stacks against the hills. A second check uses one sheet of plain paper, held at the latch side, with the door closed on it. Tug gently. A seal that still has spring resists. A seal that has gone limp lets the sheet slide. Write down which result you got. That note is for the conversation. It is not a parts order, and it is not a reason to unbolt the door.

Laundry corners pick up the same damp. A washer or dryer parked on an outside wall in Alameda or Richmond can sit in air that never quite dries. If you smell mildew and the drum is empty, leave that door ajar after a cycle and write which machine it is. Dragging either appliance out to "air the closet" can kink a hose or crush a vent. Leave both standing where they are.
